You have found the introduction to my own personal little pet-project.
I have always beleived that the information found on the G.I. Joe action figures' Filecards was part of what made Joe so cool. They were more than just little plastic men, they were "actually" developed characters. Finding a Joe (or Cobra) you relate to just because of his STORY or BACKGROUND is probably the reason every Joe-fan is still hooked, like me.
I've always had this idea, but now with the release of new Joe action figures (which OF COURSE means new Filecards), I became especially interested again. Mostly because of the 25th Anniversary toylines, which (to me) was the perfect revisitation to an old friend. I say perfect because it didn't branch out in any NEW directions, it just rounded out a few rough edges. As a prime example of what I mean, look at the Crimson Guard figures now. Cobra Trooper had their Cobra Officers, and you KNEW that the CG's did too, but it wasn't until the 25th Ann. series that we got proof that Cobra ACTUALLY DOES organize itself by rank... somewhat. For the hardcore Joe-fans that scrape for every bit of trivia they can find, like me, that was awesome. Thank-you, 25th.
SO TO THE POINT: I believe that the Filecards from the original O-ring figures, and from the 25th Ann. figures, basically have everything you need, right there, to create a Collectible/Customizable Card Game. Primary focus will be laid heavily upon the original Filecards, and the "first set" will focus only on the 1982-1985 action figures. (Trust me, that's PLENTY of characters).
Any discrepancies or imbalances will be resolved by comparison to "canon" references, meaning the Sunbow Animated Series and the Marvel Comic Book Series. (Hopefully, eventually, "expansion packs" will be able to introduce more characters and more cartoon or comic-oriented factors to gameplay.)
This board is designed to be a central communication-point between all those interested in developing and playtesting the Joe card game.
Such an approach at game-design doesn't easily offer inspiration for such things as actual game mechanics though, and that is the point I am at now: developing the mechanics of the game. I have created 300+ cards for use in playtesting, and they are all available for actual use via the amazing program found at lackeyccg.com/
I am currently in the process of setting up the forum to allow authorized playtesters (members) access to the game, while non-playtesters (also members, but there will be certain areas where any Joe-fan can post, unless the Spamtards show up) will be able to offer ideas and support.
Playtesters are necessary for development of such a game as this, although at this stage I am also open to the suggestions of any fellow Joe-fan with knowledge and passion on "Joe-philosophy" in general.
